Pakistan’s civil-military leadership will hold a national security briefing for representatives of political parties in the midst of increased tensions with India after an attack in IIOJK on Sunday.

According to the State Associated Press of Pakistan (app), the briefing will be led by federal Minister of Information Attaullah Tarar and Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry. It will focus on the current national security situation, especially regarding escalating friction with India.

The move follows a 22 April attack in Pahagam, killing 26 tourists. India accused Pakistan of involvement, a claim Islamabad has strongly denied. Both sides have since exchanged strong statements in which India lifts to target those responsible and Pakistan warn of a permanent response to any military action.

In a related step, President Asif Ali Zardari has called on the National Assembly’s emergency member on Monday night, where legislators are expected to formally condemn India’s threat to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, a decades of old water sharing agreement between the two countries.

Formerly Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar rejected highly Indian claims connecting Pakistan with the Pahagam attack on April 22 in Indian—billed possessed Jammu (IIOJK)

“Pakistan has nothing to do with the Pahagam attack, period,” Dar said at a press briefing. He also demanded a joint study based on mutually agreed reference conditions (TOR) and questioned the time of the allegations.

“This situation is created by India in the midst of Pakistan’s economic stability,” he added.
