Crypto’s big events this week are happening in Washington DC. A House Financial Services Subcommittee opens with a hearing on oversight of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network.
The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency’s (OCC) comment period on proposed GENIUS Act rules that expand anti-money laundering standards and penalties for stablecoin issuers closes on July 24.
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s (CFTC) window for 24/7 trading and perpetual-style bitcoin futures will close on July 27, three months after the regulator approved the first regulated bitcoin perpetual on Kalshi. The GENIUS Act turned one this month, and the regulations built on it are still being written.
The macro calendar is centered on Thursday’s decision on the European Central Bank, with markets pricing in a team.
Traders will also monitor geopolitical developments and oil prices for potential clues as to what the markets might do next.
