ISLAMABAD:
DPM/FM Ishaq Dar on Friday expressed deep concern over the recent regional tensions and stressed the importance of dialogue, restraint, de-escalation from all sides and sustained diplomatic engagement to achieve lasting peace and stability.
Dar met with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) meeting in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan, according to a press release.
The DPM emphasized the need to build on the understandings reached under the June 2026 Islamabad MoU.
Dar also called on the US and Iran to return to diplomacy based on the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, which was signed by Washington and Tehran in June.
During the meeting, the two sides reaffirmed the close and long-standing ties between Pakistan and Iran and reviewed the evolving regional situation.
Foreign Minister Araghchi appreciated Pakistan’s continued diplomatic support and constructive efforts to promote regional peace and security.
He also thanked Pakistan for facilitating the safe return of Iranian fishermen and crew members, including those from vessels banned by the US, and for its close coordination with the Iranian, US and other relevant authorities to ensure their safe transit through Pakistan and return to Iran.
Wang Yi
Dar met with Chinese FM Wang Yi on the sidelines of the SCO Foreign Ministers’ meeting here.
The two leaders had a warm and productive exchange of views on bilateral relations, regional development and cooperation in multilateral fora.
He thanked Yi for appreciating Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts for regional peace and stability, as highlighted during his remarks at the SCO Council of FM.
