Three lions have finalized their 26-man squad for this summer’s buzzing WC race.
England coach Thomas Tuchel announced the final squad on Friday 22 May 2026.
First, let’s shed some light on the surprises that have made it to the squad.
Among them are Djed Spence and Ivan Toney, who stunned the British. While Maguire, Cole Palmer and Phil Foden are those who could not make the World Cup squad.
Among the big omissions was Morgan Gibbs-White, despite his strong performance for Nottingham Forest.
Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke were a must for the 26-man squad that helped Arsenal win the Premier League Championship.
Defensively, Harry Maguire is going unnoticed despite the hopes of making a third World Cup, with Djed Spence a fascinating call to cover both back positions.
For the centre-back positions, Jarell Quansah offers depth, while both John Stones and Reece James look set to play key roles despite questions regarding their fitness.
England coach Touchel has explained his choice for the World Cup at a press conference on 22 May 2026.
Tuchel said: “I think from day one we were clear in our attempt to pick the best possible team.
“Which isn’t necessarily putting together the best 26 individual players. Teams win championships.”
Here is the official 26-man FIFA World Cup squad:
Goalkeepers: Jordan Pickford, Dean Henderson, James Trafford
