It’s fair to say that Apple’s efforts to push Apple Intelligence upgrades into Siri and bring the digital assistant up to the level of Gemini or ChatGPT have been somewhat strained up to this point, and it looks like the big Siri 2.0 update we’re expecting very soon won’t be straightforward either.
Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, who frequently gets his hands on Apple information, says the revamped and AI-enhanced version of Siri launching with iOS 27 may initially come with a “beta” label attached.
Gurman also suggests there’s “the possibility of a waiting list of some sort” before you’ll be able to try the enhanced features — something you might remember Apple did with the original launching Apple Intelligence back in 2024.
For months, we’ve heard rumors about this Siri upgrade, and according to Gurman, it will transform Siri “from a voice control system to a do-it-all AI companion.” Some of the incoming features were announced with Apple Intelligence in 2024 and then delayed, including deeper access to apps and users’ personal information.

We also know that Apple has signed a deal with Google to use Gemini’s AI models to power the new and improved Siri 2.0. However, this won’t be like the existing ChatGPT integration: there will be no mention of Gemini in the app, although it will be Google’s technology that figures out the relevant AI responses.
According to previous leaks, Apple will again use the privacy argument to suggest that its AI offering is “fundamentally different” from what else is on the market, with tighter controls on how much user data is shared and stored.
We’ve also already seen what the updated Siri might look like on iOS, with an animation popping out of the iPhone’s Dynamic Island when the AI assistant is called. Siri chats are also expected to be synced across devices, for the first time.
