- Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse‘s first footage has been revealed
- It was screened exclusively for CinemaCon 2026 attendees
- Sony has also publicly released some fresh images for the animated trilogy capper
Sony has revealed the first official footage for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse – but only behind closed doors.
As part of its CinemaCon 2026 presentation yesterday (April 13), Sony Pictures showed the first two minutes, plus a quick spiel of other clips, from the upcoming animated film. Unfortunately, the footage was only shown to attendees, so it’s highly unlikely that the rest of us will see it.

There is also quite a bit to pick from the gallery above.
For starters, it looks like we’re either getting a flashback of Miles’ father Jefferson Davis and Uncle Aaron before they fall out, or Miles is visiting another dimension where the pair didn’t drift apart like they do in Miles’ universe. There is also a shot of Miles and his father having a tender moment in the former’s bedroom, which could also be from the past as it seems to show the young version of Miles we see in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verserather than Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verses teen version.
The final two images feature Spider-Punk’s fan-favorite rebellious scrapbook animation style and a shot of Miguel O’Hara grabbing Miles. The latter reminds me of a scene from the couple’s fight in Across the Spider-Verseso I’m interested to find out if this is a stylized version of what Miles remembers from the offensive encounter, or if it depicts a new showdown between them. I guess we’ll find out when Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse hits theaters worldwide on June 18, 2027.
Why fans are still skeptical of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’s release date
With its first footage revealing a slew of new images, you’d think fans of this animated film series would be more confident than ever that it will make it to its current launch date. However, this is not the case – and I can fully understand why some are still doubtful about the release in mid-2027.
Actually before Across the Spider-Verses theatrical debut in June 2023, its sequel was originally pegged to arrive just nine months later in March 2024. But after a damning report about apparently appalling working conditions on that film, coupled with the 2023 Hollywood strikes, Beyond the Spider-Verse was completely removed from Sony’s 2024 film lineup.
Since then, its launch date has been dancing around different dates. Last April it was announced that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse would be released on June 4, 2027. Two months later, however, the launch was pushed back to June 25, 2027 just two months later, before its release was moved up a week to its current June 18, 2027 slot in September 2025.
I will never laugh at the fact that they originally announced this for March 2024. Like what the hell were they smoking ππ https://t.co/6RZdTATczo14 April 2026
Given its long development cycle, reported crunches on its predecessor, and shifting release dates, it’s easy to see why some people still doubt it will arrive next June. In the hours since Sony’s CinemaCon 2026 panel ended, fans took to Reddit, ResetEra forums and other social platforms like X/Twitter to say how absurd it was that Beyond the Spider-Verse was supposed to be out two years ago, expressing their concerns about another possible delay.
For what it’s worth, Spider-Verse movie producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller have dismissed the idea that the third and final film will be pushed back yet again. In fact, in an exclusive chat with me last month, they confidently claimed so Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will be ready to go in June 2027. In the same interview, they also said that we will see its first footage “soon”. I just wish by “we” they meant all of us, and not just CinemaCon attendees…
