‘House of the Dragon’ Stars Teases Big Season 3 Turning Point

‘House of the Dragon Season 3’ premiered on June 21, 2026 on HBO and Max

House of the Dragon stars Emma D’Arcy and Matt Smith have opened up about one of the biggest moments in the latest episode and what it means for Rhaenyra and Daemon moving forward.

The episode opens with Rhaenyra receiving heartbreaking news that her son and heir, Jace Targaryen, has been killed at the Battle of Gullet.

While talking to BlackD’Arcy said filming the scene was emotionally difficult.

“I think the truth is that for Rhaenyra, it’s an insurmountable loss and it’s a reality that’s too horrible to face,” D’Arcy said.

They added: “So the first feeling, the first instinct, is kind of complete denial and trying to push back against the dawning terrible reality. It was a hard day at work.”

D’Arcy also praised Harry Collett, who plays Jace, saying he quietly gave them space before filming and later checked in to make sure they were okay.

At the end of the episode, Rhaenyra and Daemon finally take control of the Red Keep after Otto Hightower is executed.

However, even after everything that has happened, D’Arcy believes that Rhaenyra still wants Alicent’s approval. “Rhaenyra still sees Alicent as her judge and jury,” they explained.

Matt Smith also said it felt special to return to film in the Red Keep after spending so much time away.

“It was kind of like coming home,” he said.
