Produced by Barack and Michelle Obama to mark the 250th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence, Life, Larry and the pursuit of misfortune follows a clever format—an alternate history of America told through Larry David’s gripes and faux pas—albeit one that borrows heavily from the Mel Brooks vehicle History of the world.
Each episode consists of four separate sketches, a couple of which have been teased in the trailer (embedded below). Larry David, hijacking the VJ Day celebrations for his own merry purposes, looks particularly promising.
Not everyone was a fan of latter-day catchphrase, perma-shouting Larry David Curbstoneand the show didn’t always benefit from its abundance of guest cameos from the spheres of Hollywood and politics, but that seems to be the approach that Life, Larry and the pursuit of misfortune joins Barack Obama, Jerry Seinfeld, Jon Hamm, Isla Fischer, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Bill Hader, Kathryn Hahn and Vince Vaughn among those getting in on the action.
On the plus side, it will too Curbstone regulars Susie Essman, Jeff Garlin and JB Smoove. Don’t hold your breath for a Cheryl Hines performance.
