India misunderstood Islamabad’s peace intentions: envoy

Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, has said that India miscalculated Islamabad’s desire for peace as weakness during a ceremony held at the Pakistani embassy in Washington on Saturday to mark the end of a year of Marka-e-Haq’s historic victory.

Addressing the ceremony, Sheikh said during the Marka-e-Haq that Pakistan forces, civil and military leaders, and the entire nation proved the greatness of Pakistan’s geographical and territorial importance, integrity and national pride.

He said that the Pakistan Armed Forces, the civilian and military leadership and the entire nation had demonstrated greatness by protecting the country’s geographical and regional importance, sovereignty and national dignity during the “Marka-e-Haq”.

The ambassador said that Pakistan was located in one of the world’s most important and sensitive regions geographically, adding that Quaid-e-Azam’s far-sighted vision had predicted that Pakistan would become a central global state, a prediction which he said was increasingly coming true.

Sheikh said that Pakistan was created to protect the honor and dignity of the Muslims of the subcontinent and the nation would not allow any compromise with its dignity and honor.

He said that the treatment of Muslims in India today reinforced the foresight and correctness of the decision to establish Pakistan.

The ambassador said that the Pakistani nation had been fighting for its survival with resilience and courage since the country came into being, adding that history had proved that global security was linked to Pakistan’s security.

He said that Pakistan had played a positive and effective role in the last eight decades on political, diplomatic and other international fronts.

Referring to efforts aimed at peace in the context of US-Iran tensions, he said Pakistan’s role reflected its positive and recognized diplomatic traditions and history.

The ambassador said that Pakistan had always played a key role in global and regional peace, adding that India had paid a heavy price for mistaking Pakistan’s desire for peace as a weakness.

He also thanked US President Donald Trump for playing a positive role in the efforts for a ceasefire between the two nuclear powers.

Sheikh said the 88-hour events had revived the spirit of Pakistani identity among overseas Pakistanis around the world.

He emphasized that it was a national responsibility to put aside differences and demonstrate unity for the country’s security, reconstruction and development.

The ambassador said the philosophy behind “Bunyanum Marsoos” was linked to economic development.
