Key Democratic lawmakers say the crypto Clarity Act ‘falls short’ on ethics and other issues

The latest draft of the crypto market structure bill is “missing” where it should be on ethics and other provisions, a group of US Senate Democrats said Wednesday.

Senators Angela Alsobrooks, Cory Booker, Catherine Cortez Masto, Ruben Gallego, John Hickenlooper, Mark Warner and Raphael Warnock — a core group of negotiators likely to be needed to advance the bill — said in a joint statement shared with CoinDesk that they would continue to work with their Republican counterparts on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, but that it needed more items, including work on more items. how the bill deals with illegal financing and consumer protection.

Alsobrooks and Gallego were the only lawmakers to vote for the Clarity Act in committee, while several others in the opinion have previously expressed support for the bill.

“The Republican proposed text for the CLARITY Act, as it currently stands, falls short,” the statement said. “Key provisions, including those dealing with the ethics of elected officials, consumer protection, illicit financing, conflicts of interest and market integrity need to be strengthened.”
