KP police seek federal security package

Package to focus on new police stations, strengthening of security infrastructure, establishment of police posts, modern vehicles

PESHAWAR:

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Police has formally approached the federal government seeking a special package to deal with the worsening security situation in the province, especially in its most sensitive southern districts.

The package is expected to focus on building police stations, strengthening security infrastructure, establishing new police posts and providing modern vehicles.

The move comes in the wake of a series of consecutive terrorist attacks that prompted provincial authorities to brief the federal government on the situation on the ground.

According to sources, the police identified Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan and Tank as high priority areas in the proposed plan sent to the Center through the KP government.

A senior police officer told The Express Pakinomist that as an initial step, the Fateh Khel check post in Bannu will be upgraded to a concrete structure to improve personnel protection.

The officer further revealed that the federal government has received a comprehensive report detailing the recent rise in terrorism in KP, including the increasing use of advanced technology by militants.

The report also outlines countermeasures taken by police, including efforts to disrupt militant networks and prevent attacks involving modern tools such as quadcopters.

Following Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s recent visit to Peshawar, the authorities presented a comprehensive assessment highlighting the challenges faced in maintaining law and order. The report points out the dilapidated state of police lines in the southern districts – many of which have not been rebuilt since colonial times.
