Joško Guardiol has signed a new five-year contract at Manchester City until 2031.
The Croatian defender joined City in 2023 and had two years left on his deal at the Etihad Stadium.
“As soon as I knew that City wanted to renew my contract, I immediately felt that this is what I wanted,” Guardiol said. “It’s the best club in the world to be at.
“The players we have here are fantastic. This is a world-class team that is young and full of potential. I really believe we will have a lot of success in the years to come.”
Guardiol, 24, joined City from Leipzig for 90 million euros ($99.2 million), making him one of the most expensive defenders in football history. He has won five major trophies, including the Premier League title and the FA Cup during his time at the club.
“Josko is a player this club really believes in. He is young, an excellent professional and already one of the best defenders in the world,” said City director of football Hugo Viana. “Manchester City are committed to retaining our best talent, which is why we are delighted that this new contract has been agreed.”
