An investiture ceremony was held at the Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi to confer military awards on officers and soldiers of the Pakistan Army in recognition of outstanding gallantry in operations and outstanding services rendered to the nation, the military’s media wing said on Thursday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Chief of Defense and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir attended as the chief guest and presented awards to the families of the martyrs as well as serving officers and soldiers.

The ISPR said the decorations included 50 Sitara-i-Imtiaz and 12 Tamgha-i-Basalat. Medals awarded posthumously were received with honor by the martyrs’ families.

Field Marshal Munir pays tribute to the fallen and wounded in the line of duty, “Shuhada and Ghazis remain the enduring pride of the nation. Their honor and sacrifice is a sacred trust for every Pakistani. The peace and security of our motherland is due to their supreme sacrifice and unswerving devotion to duty.”

He also expressed “deep admiration for the resilience, dignity and steadfastness of the families Shuhada,” recognizing their “unparalleled sacrifices and unwavering commitment to their homeland.”

Commending the operational readiness and determination of the Pakistan Army and law enforcement agencies, Field Marshal Munir lauded their continued efforts against terrorism and reaffirmed that “the fight against terrorism will continue with full national resolve until lasting peace and stability is achieved throughout the country,” ISPR added.

Last week, President Asif Ali Zardari awarded 47 military awards to distinguished officers and soldiers to recognize their outstanding bravery, leadership and meritorious services rendered to the defense of the country.

Three personnel, including an officer and two jawans, who embraced martyrdom in the line of duty, were posthumously awarded the Sitara-i-Basalat for gallantry and sacrifice.

The President also conferred Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military) on 44 senior officers of the armed forces. The awards recognized their outstanding leadership and meritorious services.
