Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and China’s Minister of State for Public Security and Head of the Special Service Bureau, Ling Zhifeng, reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening counter-terrorism cooperation and deepening the strategic partnership between the two countries during a meeting at the UN headquarters in New York.

Naqvi will represent Pakistan at the two-day 2026 UN Chiefs of Police Summit to be held at the UN headquarters in New York on July 7 and 8. The summit has brought together interior ministers, police chiefs and senior UN officials from around the world to discuss how UN police can better respond to evolving peace and security challenges, while strengthening international peace and security cooperation.

On the sidelines of the summit, Naqvi is also holding a series of bilateral meetings with his counterparts from several countries.

The two ministers agreed to expand cooperation on internal security, stressing the need for closer cooperation on border management, illegal immigration and counter-narcotics.

Naqvi said there was a need to stop terrorist financing at all levels and called for joint action against countries involved in supporting and financing terrorist groups.

He said Pakistan wanted to further strengthen security cooperation with China and noted that a special protection police force had been established to ensure the safety of Chinese nationals working in Pakistan.

The home minister also emphasized the importance of people-to-people contacts to strengthen bilateral ties and said that visa facilitation was crucial in this regard.
