The word “home” is often associated with comfort and safety, but Netflix’s new film The last house explores what happens when it becomes your prison instead.
In fact, the top streaming service just dropped a tense new trailer for the upcoming sci-fi flick, which is set to hit our screens on August 7. Here we see an ordinary family learn that they have been sealed in their home and that there is no obvious way out.
I really like this trailer because it immediately answers the obvious question of “well, why don’t they just smash the windows and run away?”. Take a look below and see how captured they really areā¦

What else do we know about The Last House?
The exciting new film is directed by Louis Leterrier, who is best known for his work with The carrier and Now you see me. Here he replaces fast-paced action scenes with a more tense, claustrophobic story.
Speaking to Tudum, Leterrier said “you won’t be able to see your house or your family the same way again,” and honestly, even the trailer has me feeling on edge with my house, so I can believe it.
Greta Lee and Wagner Moura play a couple who try to keep their children calm during their sudden confinement, but it becomes more difficult as days turn into weeks and then years. Yes, something really strange takes place here.
As seen in the trailer, the family learns that they are not the only ones affected by this and it is more widespread than they thought. With an unnamed threat looming outside, I’ll be tuning in to see if they make it out of this situation alive.
