Looking for a different day?
A new NEW Strands puzzle appears at midnight every day for your time zone – meaning some people always play ‘today’s game’ while others play ‘yesterday’s’. If you’re looking for the Thursday puzzle instead then click here: NEW Strand’s Hints and Answers for Thursday, June 4 (Game #823).
Strands is the NYT’s latest word game, following the likes of Wordle, Spelling Bee and Connections – and it’s great fun. It can be difficult though, so read on for my Strands tips.
Want more word-based fun? So check out my NYT Connections today and Quordle Today pages for tips and answers to these games, and Marc’s Wordle Today page for the original viral word game.

NEW Strands today (game #824) – the answers
The answers to today’s Strands, game #824, are…
- SCRAP
- BATTLE
- SKIRMISH
- CLASH
- BATTLE
- NEIGHBORHOOD
- SPANGRAM: FIGHT WORDS
- My rating: Easy
- My score: Perfect
On their own, none of today’s words sound too worrying – but taken together they make you realize how many FIGHTING WORDS we have in the English language and what that says about the countless ways we’ve come up with to inflict violence on each other.
However, a SKIRMISH sounds like something most of us could handle and the world would be better if this was the upper limit of a match – it’s up there with less disagreement, contempt and what football commentators like to call “handbags” (that’s when two players pretend to fight but their hearts aren’t really in it).
I managed to get through without any hints, having spotted the spanframe immediately. I’m assuming the theme is a meme or pop culture reference that has gone completely over my head.
Yesterday’s NYT Strand’s Answer (Thursday, June 4, Game #823)
- MERCY
- EASY
- POISE
- APLOMB
- STYLE
- SOCKET
- SPANGRAM: POETRYINMOTION
