A new NEW Strands puzzle appears at midnight every day for your time zone – meaning some people always play ‘today’s game’ while others play ‘yesterday’s’. If you’re looking for the Wednesday puzzle instead then click here: NEW Strand’s Hints and Answers for Wednesday, June 3 (Game #822).

NEW Strands today (game #823) – the answers
The answers to today’s Strands, game #823, are…
- MERCY
- EASY
- POISE
- APLOMB
- STYLE
- SOCKET
- SPANGRAM: POETRYINMOTION
- My rating: Easy
- My score: Perfect
When you spot a non-game word as good as POETRY, chances are it’s part of a longer spangram, and today proved that with the addition of INMOTION.
I also managed to spot a full set of non-game words that begin with the letter P, and I’m sure I could have found a few more, but there was only one P word among our six descriptions of elegant movement.
APLOMB is one of my favorite words, and one that is often used to describe moments of sporting excellence, usually by Lionel Messi, but in my opinion it should carry a touch of insolence along with panache.
A better example would be the character of Beth in The Queen’s Gambit as she navigates a male-dominated world and destroys her opponents with casual cool. That said, when I first heard it, I thought it was odd that people were delivering things with a plum.
Yesterday’s NYT Strand’s Answer (Wednesday, June 3, Game #822)
- YELLOW
- HEDGE
- WILD
- BRIAN
- DAMASCUS
- PRAIRIE
- SPANGRAM: THE ROSE GARDEN
