Warning: Contains spoilers for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie could have a big impact on upcoming games, according to Nintendo game director Shigeru Miyamoto.
In a recent interview with Nintendo Dream Web, Miyamoto told fans that Princess Peach’s background may be expanded in future games, using The Super Mario Galaxy Movie as a reference point.
Miyamoto said, “Because we don’t know what kind of game we want to make next with our characters, having too many character settings would be a limitation. I’m fine with being bound by the gameplay, but I don’t want to be bound by having created a story, which has been the reason for not making movies for many years.

“So, before I made this movie, I hadn’t decided on the character’s backstory, but now that I’m making the movie, it’s become fun to expand the character in different ways. Therefore, I want to stick as much as possible to the settings created in the movie in future games.”
IN The Super Mario Galaxy Moviewe learn that Princess Peach is the sister of the galactic traveler Rosalina, and that they were both born of stardust. At a young age, the two sisters were separated when Peach was sent to live in the Sponge Kingdom for her own safety.
This was a big reveal for fans of the game, and it looks like this will be firmly entrenched in the character’s canon going forward.
Miyamoto has also responded to poor reviews of Super Mario Galaxy movies
Look at
This is good news for those who enjoyed The Super Mario Galaxy Moviebut there is a chance that not everyone will be satisfied as the reviews of the film were quite poor with an average of 43% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The audience result is very different, however, as the film has 89% on the Popcornmeter. So it has turned out to be a very divisive take on the much-loved video game characters.
In the same interview with Nintendo Dream Web, Miyamoto addressed some of the poor reviews for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which has a lower approval rating than its predecessor.
He said: “The situations are similar, aren’t they? Actually, I thought the critics’ reviews of the first film were understandable. But I thought this time it would be different… and it was even tougher than the last time, which I found strange.
“People from other media are coming in and working hard to revive the film industry, so it’s really strange that the people who are trying to revive the film industry are so passive.”
Despite the mixed response, it looks like the movies and games will be closely linked, so what we saw in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie could definitely affect future Nintendo games. We’ll just have to wait and see how it turns out.
