ISLAMABAD:
The federal government on Friday reduced the price of petrol by Rs4 per litre, while the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) was kept unchanged for the next week, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Energy’s Petroleum Division.
The notification said the revised rates will be effective from June 6, 2026 (today). Accordingly, it informed that the ex depot price of petrol has been reduced to Rs 377.78. per liter from Rs 381.78. per liter while the price of high speed diesel remains unchanged at Rs 380.78.
The latest adjustment comes after a series of fuel price revisions in response to fluctuations in international oil markets. Last week, the government cut the prices of both petrol and diesel by Rs22 per litre, bringing significant relief to consumers amid fluctuating global energy prices.
Gasoline is used by motorcycles and cars. High-speed diesel is widely used in the transport and agricultural sectors. Among other fuels, petroleum oil is used in remote areas, especially in the northern parts of the country, where LPG is not available for cooking. Light diesel oil is used in industry.
The oil industry has recently witnessed an increase in smuggled petroleum products, which has been a key threat to refiners’ sales of gasoline and diesel. The government has taken some measures, but smuggling continues and poses a serious threat even to the upgrade plans of local refineries.
