Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Saturday that the United States and Iran have agreed on a framework for a peace deal that will end the months-long conflict in the Middle East, with a final text of the agreement.

Pakistan is now preparing for an electronic signature expected in the next 24 hours, followed by technical-level talks next week, he added in a post on X.

“We are closer to a peace agreement than ever before. With a finalization likely expected within the next 24 hours, Pakistan is preparing for the electronic signing of the peace agreement immediately after, followed by technical-level talks next week.”

He also thanked the United States and Iran for their continued commitment during the negotiations. He expressed sincere appreciation to their brothers in the region for their support.

“We are confident that this historic peace agreement will form a strong foundation for lasting peace,” he added.

US President Donald Trump shared the Prime Minister’s post on his own Truth Social platform.

Meanwhile, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has hailed Pakistan’s mediation efforts to facilitate dialogue between the US and Iran, saying the process aimed to ensure continued engagement between the two sides and pave the way for a positive outcome in the coming days. He said the agreement would be presented as the “Islamabad Pact”.

Speaking to a private television channel, he said that Pakistan had brought both the US and Iran to the dialogue table so that communication would not be interrupted and the process could continue, eventually reaching a positive conclusion in the coming days.

On this occasion, the minister strongly condemned Israel’s actions aimed at sabotaging the dialogue process, describing its role as “destructive”.

“At various times, Israel has played a very negative and destructive role. In Lebanon, thousands of children and innocent civilians were killed, while the genocide in Gaza continues even today. Their goal was to ensure that the conflict continued and that the United States remained engaged in the region in one way or another,” he said.

He also praised the US administration, particularly President Trump, for its role during the dialogue process, saying Trump had set an example of how a bold global leader should lead. He also praised the Iranian administration, saying it had created a new history.

“Iran has set a new example through the way it defended itself with courage, bravery and deep patriotism,” he said, adding that both countries had shown wisdom and good judgment.

On Friday evening, Prime Minister Shehbaz had made a post on X regarding a “relentless disinformation campaign waged by those who want to sabotage the peace agreement”.

He went on to state that “a final, agreed text of the peace agreement has been reached and Pakistan is now working closely with both sides to finalize the next steps,” adding that “peace has never been as close as it is now.”

The United States and Iran signaled on Friday that a deal to end their war was close, and a senior US administration official said both sides had agreed on a text and that Washington expected to sign an initial agreement in the coming days.

The war began with a joint US-Israeli attack on Iran on February 28. Iran then fired at US military targets in the Gulf, and Hezbollah in Lebanon fought back against Israel.

The war has killed thousands of people, mostly in Iran and Lebanon, and sent global energy prices soaring.
