Prince Edward speaks out as he honors royal legacy: ‘extraordinary’

Prince Edward appears unfazed by the ongoing debate over his place in the line of succession as he continues with the mission entrusted to him.

After Charles’s accession to the throne, the newly crowned king had bestowed the Duke of Edinburgh title, an honor that belonged to their late father, and all charities to Edward.

Edward not only accepted it graciously but has worked hard to maintain the standards, particularly the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

As the award marked its 70th anniversary, Edward made a statement acknowledging its importance to this day.

“It seems extraordinary, you know, the award has been around for 70 years,” he said. “People are constantly saying, well, is it still relevant? And actually, it’s becoming more relevant every year.”

He continued: “I think the actual framework hasn’t changed at all, but because young people choose activities that are constantly changing and evolving all the time, and then they change it.”

He emphasized that they are not changing it themselves, but that it is the young people who are doing it, “which is fantastic”.

“In this increasingly technological world, the importance of human skills, the emotional intelligence and the confidence and ability to make the right decisions,” he added.

“These kinds of skills are even more important today. It’s the same message coming from all employers, you know, how do we do it? We want this. And what the DofE is saying is, yes indeed, we can.”

The update comes as royal experts claim it has been unfair to Prince Edward and Princess Anne, who have been bumped down in the line of succession because Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and his two daughters remain in it.

They believe that Edward and Anne are more deserving of it because of their work.
