Prince Harry stepped out without Meghan Markle, his first major appearance since a headline-making meeting with King Charles.
On July 16, the Duke of Sussex was photographed on TIME’s 100 Most Influential People in Sports red carpet.
Harry had two notable interactions with the media at the event that attracted considerable attention.
First, the former working royal made a cheeky comment, saying the photographers present on the night were the “most polite” he’d ever met.
Second, Harry shared the same ‘pain’ as his brother Prince William over England’s defeat at the hands of Argentina in the FIFA World Cup semi-final.
A reporter asked if England’s loss had upset him. In response, he said, “Of course.”
After England’s defeat, future King William shared an emotional message expressing his grief. But the Prince of Wales lifted the team’s morale with words of encouragement.
For the uninitiated, Prince Harry was honored by TIME for his incredible work with his passion project, the Invictus Games.
Earlier, in a statement after the nod from TIME, the Duke said: “What we’ve managed to achieve through Invictus over the years is not just to give people back their purpose and their meaning, but to give them back their identity.”
