Pro wrestling star Joe Doering dies aged 44 after battling brain cancer

Joe Doering, a professional wrestling star who competed in All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW) and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), has died, the companies said Friday. He was 44.

AJPW and TNA each issued statements about Doering’s death.

“Joe Doering, who had been battling a brain tumor, has died at the age of 44,” All Japan Pro Wrestling said. “After learning of Joe Doring’s passing, all players and staff of All Japan Pro Wrestling express their condolences and sincerely pray for his eternal peace.”

TNA added: “We are devastated to hear of the passing of Joe Doering. A commanding player in the ring and a wonderful person, he will never be forgotten. Our condolences to his fans, his friends and his family.”

The pro wrestling community also mourned Doering’s death on social media.

Doering was battling brain cancer, which he had battled for some time. He entered hospice care earlier this week.

Doering started his pro wrestling journey in 2004 when he made his debut for Border City Wrestling. He moved through promotions and appeared in AJPW in 2007 and TNA in 2005. He also had a stint in WWE’s developmental program, Florida Championship Wrestling, in 2010. He never debuted on WWE’s main roster.

In AJPW, he was a four-time World Heavyweight Champion and a two-time Triple Heavyweight Champion. He won the TNA World Tag Team Championship twice in TNA.
