Advise users to verify their SIM registration status, ensure timely biometric verification where required
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) warned on Tuesday that WhatsApp accounts linked to inactive or unregistered SIM cards may become inaccessible if users do not update their details.
In a notice issued on X, the PTA said users must ensure their WhatsApp accounts were linked to an active and properly registered SIM card, stressing that “your digital identity is your responsibility.”
The authority warned that accounts linked to blocked, cancelled, inactive or unregistered SIMs could soon face access issues and advised users to verify their SIM registration status and ensure timely biometric verification where necessary.
It further added that users should visit the nearest franchise or customer service center for SIM verification if necessary, and urged them to immediately transfer their WhatsApp accounts to an active, “verified SIM card if their current number is no longer functional.”
The PTA emphasized that users should not wait for unexpected logouts, adding that a mobile number also represented a person’s digital identity.
Last year, the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority reiterated that all mobile SIM cards must be registered in the name of the person using them and warned that using SIMs registered to others violates the rules and could lead to action.
It also advised telecom users to ensure responsible use of their SIM cards and clarified that the registered subscriber would be held fully responsible for any misuse.
The PTA has consistently encouraged all citizens to be responsible while using social media and digital platforms.
