- Another LG OLED user reports power cycling issue caused by bright flashes
- Reddit user u/RandomGamer414 reported the issue on their LG G5 ir/LGOLED subreddit
- Other users are reporting similar issues with various LG OLED TVs, caused by other games and streaming
Several LG OLED users are experiencing power cycling issues caused by bright flashes on the screen, and the models and causes are different.
Last week we reported on unfortunate Resident Evil Requiem players’ LG OLED turning off when they fired the titular weapon, with the bright flash from the gun apparently causing a power cycling issue on their LG C1. Reddit user u/yorgo332 reported this issue ir/LGOLED subreddit.
Well, now another Reddit user is experiencing a similar problem, but this time it’s with an LG G5, the brand’s flagship and one of the best OLED TVs from last year. Check out user u/RandomGamer414’s post below:

LG G5 OLED power cycles, turns off/on with rapid change in brightness. Please lmk below if you have a similar problem and describe it from r/LGOLED
Once again, it’s a glowing muzzle flash from a weapon (this time in-game Cronos: The New Dawn) causing this user’s LG G5 to turn off and on again.
Exploring the Reddit thread, it appears that it’s not just a wide variety of games that are causing a problem, with Halo 4, Rocket League, The Division 2 and Borderlands 3 all named, but some users found themselves watching content through streaming sites like Netflix and Hulu. However, most reported problems stem from video games with large flashes from explosions.
Users are also reporting the issue on a variety of models going back as far as the LG C9 (first released in 2019) and as recent as the LG G5 (which is the model u/RandomGamer414 is using in the post above). The CX (2020) and B4 (2024) are among some of the other named models.
It’s worth noting that there are plenty of other LG OLED users, including G5 owners, who say they’ve never experienced this issue before. We here at TechRadar regularly use the G5 as our reference TV for tests, comparisons and our Blu-ray Bounty feature and have never experienced this issue either. We also have an LG C5 and LG B5 in our test lab and again have not experienced this issue before with either of them.
Again, it’s not entirely clear what’s causing the problem, whether it’s a power supply failure or a problem with the panels themselves.
Some users suggest that a new HDMI cable can fix the problem or adjust the brightness of the TV to dim the flash to prevent the blackout from happening, but there doesn’t seem to be any obvious solution yet.
We’ve reached out to LG for comment and will be sure to update this article if we hear back.
