- Insidious: Out of the Further has a terrifying new trailer
- The film premieres in cinemas from 21 August
- Many of the film’s scary moments have already been shown in the trailer
Insidious: Out of the Further is one of the new movies hitting theaters this summer, and it now has a trailer that was first shown at CinemaCon.
The plot of the new film centers on a young woman who discovers that she can travel into The Further, the purgatory realm of lost souls at the heart of Sneak universe, and can also bring what lives there back to the real world. Which is just a recipe for disaster, isn’t it?
Those who attended the convention were greeted with a scary trailer featuring a truly terrifying trip to the dentist. The franchise is known for its scares, and this trailer pulls no punches ahead of its August 21st release.

Opinion: Horror trailers need to stop spoiling their best scares

Insidious: Out of the Further has potential, but I can’t help but feel frustrated by the first look trailer. With three or four major scary moments happening in a short trailer, I’m now ready for them when I go see the movie in theaters. Which honestly really ruins the element of surprise.
Some of my favorite horror trailers in recent years have taken a more subtle approach, and it really paid off. Recently, Arms director Zach Cregger spoke to me about the film’s viral marketing and how it leaned into the mystery without ruining any scares.
I felt a similar disappointment with the first one Smile trailer for Paramount+, which ruins a major scare that I saw coming immediately when I recognized the set-up when I saw the entire film. For many horror fans, the most effective scares are those that blind us completely.
of course, Insidious: Out of the Further‘s heart-pounding trailer has everyone talking, and that’s the point. But I think they could have gotten the message across better and let suspense and mystery do the talking instead.
They’ve done that before, especially when the concept was so new to us, like the red demon scarecrow in the first one Sneak movie that I remember jumping a mile for.
Maybe they’re just riding Sneak feel and know that people will go and see it, even if the best moments have been ruined months in advance.
I wish I’d gone in blind, but I’m hoping some bigger, unspoiled scares will get me when I see the film in August.
