- The Punisher: One Last Kill is released on Disney+
- Several Marvel fans have experienced audio issues with the MCU TV Special
- Others can’t stop poking fun at a specific visual effects scene
The Punisher: One Last Kill has made its Disney+ debut – but while some viewers have enjoyed the new Marvel TV special, others have criticized some of its terrible visual effects (VFX) and audio issues.
Following the special presentation’s release, various forums and social platforms have been populated with comments from disgruntled fans.
Among the many criticisms leveled by sections of the Marvel community are its narrative pacing, well-worn plots, and short runtimes. However, two particular problems stand high above their counterparts, because according to Disney+ users, they completely ruined their viewing experience.
The biggest of their concerns is The Punisher TV special’s sound mix. In fact, several people have taken to the r/MarvelStudios, r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers, and ResetEra forums to complain that they can’t hear anyone speaking because the dialogue volume is too low. Meanwhile, some who have a home theater set up claim that the sound comes primarily through their rear speakers rather than the center channel.
“Is the dialogue level really low for anyone else? I can barely hear Frank speak,” asked one Redditor. “Is the sound mix bad for anyone else? I have my tv volume up twice normal and all the dialogue sounds like I’m listening through a wall,” asked another on Reddit.
Meanwhile, one user on the ResetEra forums wrote: “My sound is totally messed up. Just this. The other Disney+ stuff I tried is fine”, before someone replied: “Ok, so it wasn’t just my TV. I had to turn my volume up almost all the way just to hear the non-action scenes”. “Yes, [the] audio mix was weird on my end too,” added another. “Not sure if it was on purpose or not. It felt appropriate to the mood, but it was also a little annoying.”
“I’m 100% sure they accidentally uploaded an incomplete audio mix to Punisher One Last Kill,” wrote one X/Twitter user. “The dialogue is whisper quiet, the music drowns out everything, and a bunch of sound effects that should be smaller are louder than both.”
“Punisher: One Last Kill may be the worst thing the MCU has ever put out,” said another X/Twitter user in a damning verdict on the Marvel Phase 6 project. “Audio mixing is off. Unnecessary dog murder. Frank Castle is either crying or screaming all the time. Waste of time. The worst portrayal of the character yet. Oh yeah, he wears the skull for 5 seconds. 1/10.”
For what it’s worth, I’ve reached out to Disney for comment on this particular issue. At the time of publication I had not heard back, but I will update this article if I do.
That’s not the only major complaint Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fans had The Punisher: One Last Kill. Others have actually also hit and/or poked fun at some incredibly jarring VFX that appear in its second act.
“The Punisher: One Last Kill” has some of the worst CGI animation I’ve seen in years. Approx. Like…How is it possible that Jon Bernthal turns into a PS4 graphics replica of Joel Miller from The Last Of Us?! Wtf is Disney doing? pic.twitter.com/hZ9ZOnKK4m13 May 2026
The moment in question? A scene where Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle/The Punisher falls from a roof to a lower one while escaping a couple of thugs trying to kill him.
As he lands, the titular anti-hero’s fall is broken by part of a metal roof ventilation system. Instead of Bernthal performing the stunt himself, however, it’s an action picture created using computer-generated imagery (CGI) – and despite the huge sums of money at Marvel and parent company Disney’s disposal, it doesn’t look good. At all. And unsurprisingly, it didn’t take long for fans to burn the studios over this specific scene.
“CGI Frank Castle isn’t real. It can’t hurt you,” joked one on ResetEra. “[That was] a bad moment of CGI when Frank falls off the roof and lands on an air conditioner or whatever,” another ResetEra user commented, before another said: “That digi-double when Frank falls off the roof was hilarious.”
Over on Reddit, one user amusingly asked: “Did anyone else catch that Xbox 360 rendition of Frank crashing into the air conditioning box on the roof?”, before another Redditor mocked the scene by saying “VFX turned Jon Bernthal into Joel from The last of us.”
