Is this an Android problem?
So far, it’s not clear what’s causing today’s Facebook app problems — but it seems to be hitting Android users a little harder than those on iPhones.
Many of the comments on Downdetector and social media are related to Android devices, with one reporting that Facebook “keeps crashing on Android but is fine on my iOS device”.
The fact that the number of reports is relatively low for a Facebook outage suggests that this may be related to issues with a particular app version. But I’m working on getting a more official explanation.
The reports are growing
Today’s reports of problems with the Facebook app continue to move in the wrong direction – we’re now at 1,175 reports of Downdetector in the US and counting, with the UK not far behind with 580 reports.
These issues appear to be specific to the mobile app, with over 80% of reports on Downdetector related to the app rather than the website or login issues. There is still no official comment from Meta, but I expect one soon if these reports continue to grow.
What’s wrong with the Facebook app?
Right now, hundreds of people are reporting that the Facebook app isn’t working properly — with the most common complaint being that it simply closes when they open it.
We haven’t been able to replicate the issues here at TechRadar, but the comments on Downdetector and social media point to similar issues. Some say it simply “keeps shutting down when I open it,” while others report a pop-up box saying there’s a known bug.
