ISLAMABAD:
The federal government has revised the prices of petroleum products, increased kerosene oil prices while adjusting the petroleum duty structures on petrol and high speed diesel (HSD).
According to official documents, kerosene price has been hiked by Rs8.70 per litre, bringing the new price to Rs280.70 per liter compared to the earlier rate of Rs272.
Meanwhile, the government has significantly increased oil duty on petrol by Rs 24.74 per litre. The duty has been raised from Rs91.34 to Rs116.08 per litre, effectively offsetting any potential relief to consumers.
In contrast, the duty on HSD has been reduced by Rs24.34 per litre, bringing it down from Rs68.93 to Rs44.59 per litre. This adjustment has helped maintain the existing price of diesel despite broader price pressure.
Officials said the restructuring of charges is part of the government’s fiscal management strategy, although it has resulted in limited relief for petrol consumers amid persistent inflation concerns.
The government on Friday cut the price of petrol by Rs4 per liter while keeping the price of HSD unchanged for the next week, according to a release issued by the Petroleum Department of the Ministry of Energy.
It stated that the ex depot price of petrol was reduced to Rs 377.78. per liter from Rs 381.78. per liter while the price of HSD remained unchanged at Rs 380.78.
The latest adjustment came after a series of fuel price revisions in response to fluctuations in international oil markets. Last week, the government cut the prices of both petrol and diesel by Rs22 per litre, bringing significant relief to consumers amid fluctuating global energy prices.
Gasoline is used by motorcycles and cars. HSD is widely used in the transport and agricultural sectors.
