Manages reforms in the Ministry of the Interior’s institutions and increased capacity of the police and the FIA

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday directed that all available resources should be used to enhance the capacity of law enforcement agencies to secure lives and property of citizens.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the remarks were made during an important meeting on the country’s law and order situation and the affairs of the Ministry of the Interior, which was held under the Prime Minister’s chairmanship.
Prime Minister Shehbaz said that strengthening the law enforcement institutions remains a top priority for the government. “All available resources will be used to ensure the protection of public life and property,” he said.

He directed the authorities to strictly implement a zero tolerance policy against corruption in law enforcement institutions.
“Corruption in law enforcement agencies will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” he said.
The Prime Minister also directed that all appointments in institutions working under the Ministry of Home Affairs, including the Federal Investigation Agency, should be secured solely on merit.

“Recruitment must be transparent and strictly based on merit,” he added.
He further emphasized the need to equip civil servants with modern training and skills to effectively deal with emerging security challenges.
“We must prepare our forces for evolving and modern security challenges through advanced training,” he said.
The Prime Minister also called for providing the law enforcement agencies with modern equipment, advanced technology and professional resources.

During the meeting, the participants were informed that the jail under construction in Islamabad would become operational in September this year.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi briefed the meeting about the achievements and future development plans of Federal Investigation Agency, Islamabad Police, National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency, Federal Constabulary, Capital Development Authority and other institutions operating under the Ministry of Interior.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Ministers Ahsan Iqbal and Muhammad Aurangzeb, Foreign Minister Talal Chaudhry, as well as heads of law enforcement agencies.
The remarks came hours after an explosion in Sarai Naurang tehsil of Lakki Marwat in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) killed at least nine people, including two traffic policemen, and injured 33 others.
Earlier in the day, the Interior Minister paid an official visit to the National Police Academy (NPA) in Islamabad, where he chaired a high-level meeting and reviewed several development projects aimed at modernizing police education in Pakistan.
During the visit, the minister inspected the multi-storied hostel under construction and reviewed a model room and issued directives to further improve and upgrade the facilities.
He also set May 31 as the deadline for the completion of the Elite Police Training School project, and announced that elite training for officers would now be conducted at the NPA instead of provincial institutions.
“We are moving elite training to a central, modernized facility to ensure consistent and high quality standards across the force,” the minister said.

The development comes after a suicide attack on a police checkpoint in Bannu, where 15 personnel were martyred on Sunday. A banned outfit, Ittehad Mujahideen Pakistan, belonging to Fitna al-Khawarijtook responsibility for the attack.
According to a report submitted to the city police, the attackers rammed a vehicle loaded with 1,200 to 1,500 kg of explosives into the checkpoint before detonating it, resulting in the death of 15 policemen.
The report stated that the blast took place around 8:30 pm, causing severe damage to the checkpoint building. It added that the attackers also tried to storm the facility in an attempt to seize the equipment present inside.
Authorities said the vehicle used in the attack was a loader rickshaw.
