- RIG has unveiled the R8 Specter Pro gaming headset
- There are two models available, one for PlayStation and the other for Xbox
- They cost $179.99 (around £130 / AU$250) and have a decent feature set
Gaming accessory brand RIG has unveiled a new wireless gaming headset, the R8 Specter Pro. Designed to deliver “studio-grade” sound, the company claims the headset has been “purpose-built for competitive gaming” and offers audio that is “custom-tuned for first-person shooters” and enhances key in-game audio cues.
There are two models available: R8 Specter Pro HX and R8 Specter Pro HS. The HX variant is intended for Xbox, while the HS version is a licensed PlayStation accessory. In addition to their respective consoles, both models work with PC, Nintendo Switch 2 and mobile.
Both have 40mm graphene drivers and over 60 hours of battery life. They also come with an RGB-illuminated charging base and include a 16-bit / 48kHz resolution cardioid boom microphone.

The HX has Dolby Atmos 3D audio support and includes a lifetime subscription to the Dolby Access app, while the HS is tuned for PlayStation’s Tempest 3D Audio on compatible platforms.
Although the default sound profile is designed with competitive online gaming in mind, you can adjust the sound in the compatible RIG Navigator mobile app.
Like the recently released RIG R5 Max HD, the R8 Specter Pro can be customized with magnetic ear pads and modified ear pads thanks to the brand’s ‘Snap+Lock’ system.
All in all, they sound like decent packages – especially if the sound quality can deliver. That said, at the mid-range price of $179.99 (that’s around £130 / AU$250), they have some pretty stiff competition in some of the best wireless gaming headsets like the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 and the Logitech Astro A20 X .
