Visual inconsistencies and grammatical errors surface as Indian government agencies also debunk the document
Fact Check: Viral Indian Ministry of Defense document on Operation Sindoor 2.0 is AI-generated
Several users on the social media platform X since June 16, 2026 have shared an alleged classified Indian Defense Ministry document that claims India is preparing “Operation Sindoor 2.0” and is considering new military action across the Line of Control (LoC) by taking advantage of protests in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. However, the document is AI-generated.
Pakistan and India fought a four-day conflict in May 2025. Indian fighter jets were shot down by the Pakistan Air Force on the night of 6-7 May in response to late-night missile strikes by the Indian Air Force on six Pakistani locations, including the Subhan Mosque in Bahawalpur’s Ahmedpur East, the Bilal Mosque in Muzaffarabad, the Kohdan Mosque, the Abbasli Mosque, the Muridal Mosque, in The Muridal Mosque, in the Umidal Mosque. HOW IT STARTED
On June 16, an account on X, which appears to be pro-military based on its previous posts, shared a picture of a purported Indian Defense Ministry document with the following caption:
“India is preparing for Operation Sindoor 2.0 to take advantage of the situation in Azad Kashmir … The Ministry of Defense has directed that the latest recommendations regarding operational planning and the potential use of forces be prepared and presented at the National Security Committee meeting.”
The post received 17,200 views.
Another pro-military account shared the same picture the same day with a similar caption and got 2,472 views.
The 17th of June Geo news Senior Correspondent Waqar Satti also shared picture on X with the following caption: “If India dreams of any new mishap by using the situation in Azad Kashmir as a pretext for its aggression, then this is another dangerous miscalculation on its part. METHODOLOGY
A fact-check was launched to establish the veracity of the allegation due to its virality and high public interest in Pakistan-India relations and tensions.
Examination of the document for visual discrepancies revealed that the classification marking was written as “TOPSECRET” without a space instead of “TOP SECRET”. Furthermore, “favorable” is used in the first paragraph, which is American English, while India uses British English, so “favorable” should have been used.
Another grammatical error was the omission of the definite article “the” before “Line of Control” in the second paragraph.
The viral image was further analyzed using AI detection and forensic tools. Fake Image Detector marked the document as 75 percent altered.
Another AI detection tool, TruthScan, flagged the video with a 96pc probability.
AI detection tool DeepAI flagged it as 97pc AI-generated content, and Sightengine flagged it as 61pc doctored content.
A keyword search was subsequently conducted to verify whether any credible Indian or international media had reported such a document related to “Operation Sindoor 2.0”, but yielded no results.
Further investigations showed a fact check by the Press Information Bureau’s (PIB) Fact Check, the Government of India’s agency to debunk false claims, which further confirmed that the viral document is AI-generated.
