Vought Rising is the next spin-off that will continue to flag The boys‘ live-action universe. In fact, where the main show ends after five seasons and its live-action Gene V offshoot is canceled after two installments, it will be up to this Jensen Ackles-led series to keep fans engaged in Amazon’s satirical superhero world.
Ahead of the 2027 launch, what do we know? The boys‘first prequel project? Below I have gathered the latest information on Vought Risingincluding its confirmed cast and possible plot. Without further ado, here’s everything we know so far about the Prime Video show.
Vought Rising release date prediction
Introducing the next insane foray into the world of The Boys: VOUGHT RISING, starring Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash. Set in the 1950s, it explores the early exploits of Soldier Boy and a soup kitchen you know as Stormfront. Vought Rising‘s release date has not been announced. But in April Deadline reported that it will drop on Prime Video, also known as one of the top streaming services, sometime in 2027. That means it could arrive three years after it was officially announced in mid-2024.
When do I think it will launch? It’s hard to say. Many of Prime Video’s remaining 2026 projects don’t have release dates, let alone any scheduled to air next year. That being said, with three off The boys‘ five seasons coming out in June or July over the past seven years, I wouldn’t bet against a June or July 2027 launch.
Vought Rising trailer
Following its unveiling at special theatrical screenings of The boys season 5’s final episode ever – and perhaps unsurprisingly leaked online not long after – Vought Rising‘s first teaser was officially revealed on May 22.
There’s not much we can deduce from this sizzling reel-style trailer. It does, however, give us, among other things, a first look at the cast in the superhero-crime-drama period. Speaking of which…
Vought Rising cast confirmed
Once upon a time, these four were as American as apple pie. Say hello to the supers from VOUGHT RISING – a new origin story set in the world of The Boys – in production this month. First of all, Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy… pic.twitter.com/eqbHTi00kN14 August 2025
Spoilers follow Gene V season 2 and The boys season 5.
Here is the confirmed cast Vought Rising so far:
- Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy
- Aya Cash as Liberty
- Mason Dye as Bombsight
- Elizabeth Posey as Private Angel
- Will Hochman as Torpedo
Of the above quintet, we have met the first three before.
Ackles’ Soldier Boy starred in The boys‘ past three seasons (although his appearance in Season 4 came in the form of a post-credit cameo). Cash’s Liberty, which we knew as Stormfront i The boyswas a primary villain in that show’s second season and then had a small role to play in season 3. Meanwhile, Dye’s Bombsight played a much smaller but significant role in The boys season 5 episode 6
As for Posey and Hochman, they were confirmed as part of the cast in August 2025. We don’t know what superpowers they will possess, but given Torpedo’s name, I would expect this Supe to have a water-based skill set like The Deep had in The boys.
Granted Vought Rising‘s place in The Boys’ timeline – more on this soon – I expect other characters we know to show up at some point.
First, Frederick Vought, aka the founder of Vought International and creator of the supe-making serum known as Compound V, is a shoo-in to appear. He never showed up The boyshowever, so we don’t yet know which actor can play him.
Ethan Slater’s Thomas Godolkin, who was eventually revealed as Gene V season 2’s main villain, is also expected to appear. He was Vought’s right-hand man, so he should be part of the case as well.
Finally, if any of this ending is set in the present, also called after The boys season 5 finale – again, I’ll explain more in the plot section below – we also get to see the likes of Giancarlo Esposito’s Stan Edgar. To find out how and why he could appear, read my article explaining The boys season 5 ends.
Vought Rising story synopsis and rumors
Full spoilers follow The boys season 5.
Here’s the incredibly short plot synopsis for Vought Rising: “Set in the 1950s, the prequel series explores the twisted origins of Vought International.”
So there isn’t much to go on, but there are certain things we already know about the story.
Initially, it will take place in the 1950s, explore the origins of Vought International and cover events surrounding the creation of Compound V and the first superhumans. Sore Deadline , its narrative will also revolve around a “twisted murder mystery.”
The Boys franchise overseer Eric Kripke elaborates on its time period and whodunit premise to The Hollywood Reporter (THR): “We’re also trying to do a very gritty version of the ’50s. Most people’s sense, or sense of the memory, of the ’50s is from movies, which are very sanitized. Even LA Confidentialas much as i love it, visually its a pretty clean movie. We wanted dirty and dirty. There would be heroin dens, gay bars and the underbelly of this popular culture at the time. So exploring all that is also a blast.”
Little is known about how four of Vought Rising‘s five Supes, including Liberty, will account for the story. Nevertheless, Ackles has dropped a hint as to what we can expect to see from Soldier Boy. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Ackles said: “Ind The boysin modern times, [Soldier Boy is] a fish out of water. He’s an analog guy trapped in a digital world. So now we see him in his element. We see … what made him who he was.”
But will we also see Soldier Boy today? After all, he is still alive – albeit in cryosleep – at the end of The boys‘ fifth and final season. And with Vought International back under Edgar’s control after the main show’s conclusion, the Supe manufacturing mega-corporation is still in business. It is then possible Vought Rising could have a double meaning – ie. it will relate to the company’s founding in the 1950s, but it could also mean we’ll see Vought rise from the ashes after the events of The boys 5.
Chatting with Deadline, Kripke replied “no comment” when asked about Vought Rising would take place across two timelines (the 50s and the present), but we all know that’s usually code for “yes.” So don’t be surprised if Soldier Boy is thawed out again and, at Edgar’s request, helps him revive Vought’s fortunes as the company’s new poster boy.
Will Vought Rising Get a Second Season?
Predictably, there is nothing official to report on this front yet. For what it’s worth, Ackles said Clashes that “the intent is to make it a multi-season show,” so more seasons are presumably in the pipeline.
As with any TV show these days, especially those made for the world’s most popular streaming platforms, its future will be determined by the viewers. If enough people tune in to watch Vought RisingAmazon MGM Studios is more likely to greenlight a second season than not. Fight for influence and it will go the same way as Gene V and be cut off in advance.
