Daredevil: Born Again season 2 episode 8 premieres on Disney+ – and it not only closes the show’s latest chapter in typically tense fashion, but also sets up some exciting storylines in the already announced third season.
So how will the second season of the Marvel TV series end? What happens to Matt Murdock, Wilson Fisk and Karen Page? And what can we glean from that in terms of what to expect from Season 3, which is being filmed as we speak? I will answer these questions and more below. This is your only warning, so: full spoilers immediately follow before Daredevil: Born Again‘s season 2 finale.
How will Karen Page’s trial end in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Episode 8?
With Karen’s freedom still hanging in the balance after Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 7, Matt Murdock – aka the titular hero’s civilian identity – continues to argue his defense as Page’s lawyer alongside co-lawyer Kirsten McDuffie.
The article continues below
The trial proceeds as you would expect, with both sides exchanging verbal blows and twisting every piece of evidence in their favor to gain the upper hand.
In the end, Murdock uses the first of two aces up his sleeve – calling none other than archnemesis and New York Mayor Wilson Fisk to the witness stand.
As gasps ring through the courtroom, Fisk—bringing the full force of his Anti-Vigilante Task Force (AVTF) with him in a show of force—enters the courtroom and stands to say he will tell the truth and nothing but the truth.
Not surprisingly, Murdock’s intense cross-examination of Fisk further heightens the tension. Murdock provides plenty of evidence that Fisk was responsible for the Northern Star, its massive weapons shipment, the deaths of its first and second mate, when Daredevil – aka Matt’s vigilante alter-ego – discovered said cargo, and the freighter capsized and sank when Fisk realized that his criminal activities might be exposed. In response, Fisk denies all knowledge of these allegations.
Despite the evidence he has presented, Murdock soon realizes that he is losing. In fact, the judges – who fear for their own lives, in Fisk’s back pocket – are clearly unmoved by Murdock’s evidence.
This is where Murdock pulls off his second Hail Mary pass: he publicly reveals himself to be Daredevil. The reason? As the only other person to see Fisk’s black market weapons supplies firsthand aboard the Northern Star i Daredevil: Born Again season 2 episode 1 it’s the kind of testimony that can’t be ignored.
As a stunned courtroom is left reeling from this revelation, the aforementioned judges belatedly find their courage and rule in Murdock’s favor, dismissing the case with prejudice and letting Page go free.
Is Wilson Fisk still the mayor of New York at the end of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2?
No. Not only is he dethroned by this season’s climax, but he’s also been banished from the United States.
After Murdock outdoes himself as the Devil from Hell’s Kitchen, an indignant Fish heads for the court exit with his allies. There he is stopped by Governor McCaffrey, who informs him that the Attorney General has filed various charges, including extortion, smuggling, and the attempted murder of McCaffrey in this season’s penultimate episode. In addition, his monetary assets have been frozen and his Red Hook port is now under government control.
Murdock and his accusers soon arrive on the scene, and as the parties begin trading verbal blows, Bullseye – still after Fisk’s head – launches a sniper rifle attack from a building across from the courthouse.
As panic spreads through the foyer, Fisk and his followers flee and barricade themselves in a courtroom. From there, Fisk delivers a war-style speech — one broadcast live from said courtroom — to sow further division among New Yorkers. No sooner does the live stream end, however, than BB Urich broadcasts his final video as the satirized version of Fisk, in which the investigative journalist urges the citizens of New York to confront the autocratic mayor and force him out of office.
Attacked and defiant, Fisk sends his AVTF troops to prevent Daredevil’s supporters gathered outside the courthouse from entering and to track down Murdock and Page, who have also barricaded themselves in a nearby office.
In the chaos that follows, Murdock as Daredevil – with a little help from fellow superhumans Jessica Jones and Angela del Toro, aka White Tiger 2.0 – takes out the AVTF officers sent their way. Meanwhile, ATVF enforcer Cole North leads a mutiny against Field Manager Conner Powell when the latter threatens to shoot Daredevil’s supporters outside the courthouse and lets said supporters into the building.
As the walls close in on him and two calls from the Attorney General telling him to resign as mayor and renounce his US citizenship to avoid prosecution, Fisk loses his cool. A bloodthirsty Fisk orders the courtroom to be opened and strides out to meet Daredevil’s followers, severely wounding or killing those who stand in his way.
Reaching the foyer, where Murdock, Page, Jones and Del Toro are now facing Daredevil’s vigilante army, Fisk refuses to yield, causing the followers to tumble up the stairs towards him as the aforementioned quartet plead with their allies not to.
Fish begins to fight the crowd, but is quickly overwhelmed. Fearing that they will tear him apart, Murdock – again with Jones’ help – reaches Fisk and tells them that they are better than this.
Murdock turns to his archenemy and reasons with Fisk, pleading with him to take the DA’s deal. Initially hesitant, Fisk quickly realizes that it’s the only option—other than another prison sentence, anyway—available to him, and reluctantly agrees to the terms.
Why is Matt Murdock arrested and jailed in Daredevil: Born Again season 2 finale?
After ousting Fisk, Murdock and Page enjoy a romantic dinner at the Panna II restaurant after a hard fought battle won. There they talk about trying to have a normal life, and agree to give it a chance.
But their joy is short-lived, because members of the New York Police Department show up. Accusing Murdock of all the crimes he’s committed as a masked crime fighter—remember, Murdock came out publicly as the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) hero earlier in this episode and has committed numerous crimes as his alter-ego—they arrest and incarcerate him in the same prison as the AVTF members.
Does anyone die in Daredevil: Born Again season 2’s final episode?
Some AVTF officers and Daredevil followers do, but no one who is part of the Marvel Phase 6 TV show’s main cast dies.
Of its ensemble, Arty Froushan’s Buck Cashman is the only one who comes close to losing his life – Fisk’s right-hand man and fixer takes a bullet to the abdomen from Bullseye during the courthouse entrance scene.
But while his fate is up in the air when the season 2 finale’s end credits roll, we know he’ll survive because Froushan has already confirmed he’ll be back in Born again season 3. Unless his only appearance next season is in an open casket, we’ll see Cashman again in the not-too-distant future.
Will Spider-Man Appear in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2’s Eighth Episode?
No. It’s been explained countless times before, but for those who don’t know, Sony owns the live-action rights to Spider-Man and every character that operates in his circle. Marvel and Disney are therefore not legally allowed to use the iconic webslinger in any live-action project without Sony’s notice.
Sony and Marvel have a years-long partnership that allows Peter Parker to exist in the MCU, but it’s one that only allows Tom Holland’s wallcrawler to appear in Marvel’s cinematic juggernaut on the big screen. As such, Spidey is unable to star in Marvel’s Disney+ productions, which is why he did not appear in Born again season 1 or its sequel.
Fortunately, it won’t be long before we see Holland’s hero again. His next solo film, Spider-Man: Brand New Daywill hit theaters on July 31st — and depending on who you listen to, it may even somehow feature a cameo from Charlie Cox’s Murdock. To learn more about one of 2026’s most anticipated new movies, find out everything we know so far about Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Does the Daredevil: Born Again season 2 finale have a mid- or post-credits scene?
No. Unless you count the epilogue as an end-credit sequence, there are no mid- or post-credit moments to latch onto. Don’t expect a ridiculously early tease for Born again season 3 that is. Speaking of which…
Does Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 Have A Release Date?
Not yet. However, filming began on the series’ third episode in early March, so production is well underway on it.
Great – but when can season 3 launch on Disney+, also known as one of the best streaming services? Its two ancestors premiere in March 2025 and March 2026, so the smart money is on Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 will be released next March. At least that’s my best guess.
What do we know so far about Daredevil: Born Again Season 3?
Not much. However, in an episode of the official Daredevil: Born Again podcast, executive producer Sana Amanat explained that season 3, like its predecessors, will continue to draw from Mayor Fisk and Devil in the Cell Block D comics. And with Murdock behind bars from the end of season 2, episode 8, we at least know that next season will open with him doing time for his crimes.
Additionally, official photographs of Jessica Jones, along with other heroes who first appeared in Netflix’s Marvel-Verse, including Luke Cage and Danny Rand/Iron Fist, have been taken on the Season 3 set. It is therefore clear that the next installment of the series will be a Defenders reunion of sorts.
Why they want to work together again, I can’t say. But given that it took this quartet and their allies to defeat the criminal organization known as The Hand in Netflix’s The defenders crossover show, it wouldn’t surprise me if they team up to defeat new enemies that fill the power vacuum left by Fisk.
